    Douglas County SHRM Meeting Minutes

    June 9th, 2017

    Cow Creek Government Offices

    8:15am - 10:00am

    Attending SHRM members: Ashley Anderson, Michaela Baird, Courtney Duckett, Brooke Jewell, Dave Johansen, Leanne MacFarlane, Susie Marical, Kelley Plueard, Leanne Reynolds, Donna Shears, Stephanie Smith, Angie Sprouse, Daleen Thomas, Stephanie Walker, and Sharece Winslow.  Non-SHRM members: Barbara Anaya, KC Bolton, Dailene Anderson, Seth Bogner, Cheryl Cheas, Deana Chrisenbery, Elizabeth Droscher, Doug Ladd, Jonda Lorenson, Travis Pritchett, Danielle Raines, Sarah Rauschl, and Nathan Rowland. 28 attendees total.

    Stephanie Smith, DC SHRM President, called the meeting to order and conducted introductions.

    Secretary Report

    Copies of May minutes were distributed.  Leanne made a motion to accept the minutes. Ashley seconded.  All were in favor.

    Treasurer Report

          Susie presented the Treasurer Report:

    5144.34    Beginning balance  


         5111.39     Current balance in Banner Bank plus over $2000.00 in the Umpqua Bank Account.

    Old Business

    • Coos Bay 5/31
      • 5 designated DC as chapter.  6 interested in being on the board.
      • Ashley shared about next certification study group will be in Coos Country.  12 weeks online, then 3 full days of study group.

    New Business

    • “Leadership Playbook: Generate Improved Results from the Bottom Up” presented by Jennifer Bouman-Steagall, Dynamic Storyteller & Pacific Northwest Defense Attorney from Red Kite Employment Law.  
    • Corporate culture impacts everything a company does from recruiting to termination, employee behavior, interactions and communications, policies, management practices, and so much more. At its core, corporate culture is how we do things around here -- the good, the bad and the downright ugly. Problems arise when corporate culture remains in flux or undefined, when subcultures undermine the unity of the team, and when leadership decisions destroy leadership credibility.
    • Strategies were explored to improve results and effectiveness of leaders by reshaping workplace experiences. Experiences affect beliefs then actions then results.
      • Explore the real impact workplace experiences' have on driving employee actions and generating organizational results.
      • Understand how leadership decisions impact employee perceptions of leader credibility.

    Discussed strategies and tips for reshaping workplace experiences to improve results and to realign internal subcultures.
